Rain Forest Alliance is an international non-profit conservation organization based in New York that certified coffee farms, ensuring that they meet rigorous standards for the conservation of natural resources and the rights and welfare of workers and local communities. The Rainforest Alliance Certified seal verifies that farmers follow sound agricultural practices that protect forests, rivers, soils and wildlife, while being good community neighbours. Rainforest Alliance certifification also guarantees that workers have just wages, dignified living conditions and access to education and health care.

This has the potential to impact on the coffee Australians drink, and also gives consumers the choice to support sustainable coffee farming practices. The superior taste of the coffee is attributed to its slow shade grown methods in harmony with the rain forest, and in contrast to clear cut, full sun, and chemical intensive faster growing varieties.

Coffee tastings took place in New York in 2002 and the coffees from farms certified by the Rain Forest Alliance came in the top 10% of all coffees tasted.

Byron Bay Coffee Company, already renowned for its award winning coffee, was also keen to include the full palette of flavours of the Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee to their existing blends of local and international coffee.
